Product Description

It starts with a grumbling tummy.

And a dream of something yummy.

What is it time for?

Pancakes!

Tyler and his dog, Tofu, are hungry for blueberry pancakes.

They are so good to eat—all fluffy and juicy and hot. But the real fun is making them.

First you need a chicken, a cow, a few blueberry bushes, some special trees, and lots of mixing, flipping, and topping.

Chickens? Trees? We’re still talking pancakes, right?

Yes we are, and Tyler and Tofu find out just how it’s done, all before sitting down for the best breakfast ever!

Do you think pancakes come from a box? Not really! So let Food Network star Tyler Florence and Craig Frazier take you on an adventure from farm to mouth. You’ll learn how we get the best ingredients and discover that the most important one of all comes from the heart.

After Tyler has a dream about pancakes he decides to make them for himself.

The book has a cute idea but my grandkids (age 6 and 3) didn't get carried away with the idea. Their mother thought that the book gets carried away with details and it bogged down instead of moving the story forward. It seems like a neat idea to me to teach kids about where their food comes from in details. But if they don't find the story compelling they won't learn so much.

I personally thought the art work was only so so. It is not as colorful as I would like.

Bought TYLER MAKES PANCAKES for a four year old who has discovered "Why" and "Where does that come from?" It's fun and easy to understand and causes a recitial of fact in the grocery store. Note that "bacon" is mentioned, but never explained. Which is probablly best left to parents.

Tyler Makes Pancakes is a cute book that introduces kids to some basic concepts about foods, where they come from, and how they are prepared. It is an educational book at heart, lacking much in the way of story but still providing a fun read for kids. Tyler decides one morning to make pancakes for himself and his family for breakfast. He heads off to his local grocer's market where owner Mr. Jones proceeds to walk him through his shopping list explaining where each item comes from along the way. Eggs, buttermilk, wheat, blueberries, and maple syrup are described and explained in language and terms even very young children can understand, and a recipe for pancakes from the book's author and TV Chef Tyler Florence is included. The illustrations are homey and charming and suit the book perfectly. My 3 year old daughter and 7 year old son both gave the book a thumbs up and enjoyed it. It won't likely get the repeated reads that their favorite storybooks do, but it does succeed at... Read more
